UV Data Record Release 1, daily maximum dose rate, vitamin D weighting - Multimission

This product gives the daily maximum dose rate of solar ultraviolet radiation for a given day. The solar spectral irradiance arriving on a horizontal Earth's surface at a given location and time of day is weighted by an action spectrum and integrated over wavelength to yield the dose rate. The action spectrum for production of vitamin D (more specifically, previtamin D3) in human skin is applied for this product. The dose rates are calculated with half-hourly intervals during the sunlit part of the day and the maximum value is reported. Input total column ozone data are obtained from GOME-2/Metop measurements while daily cloud data are collected from multiple overpasses of AVHRR/3 instrument onboard both Metop and NOAA satellites.
