The larch casebearer Coleophora laricella is a moth that primarily parasitizes larches, causing severe damage to larch forests in Västergötland, Sweden. The Swedish Forest Agency launched a project with the support of the Microsoft AI for Earth program, which uses artificial intelligence to identify, count, map, and monitor forest areas affected by larch infestations. The primary goal of this project is to help forest managers quickly identify threats and take action to prevent further forest damage. This dataset contains 1,543 aerial images captured by drones during flights over five affected areas in Västergötland, Sweden. The dataset is divided into 10 batches, numbered from 1 to 10. All batches include bounding box annotations around trees, categorized into larch and other classes. These annotations can be used to train AI models for tree recognition. A total of 101,878 annotated trees are present across the 1,543 images. Batches 1 through 5 also include annotations for four types of tree damage: healthy (H), light damage (LD), heavy damage (HD), and other. These annotations can be used to train damage classification models. Among 840 images, 44,522 larches are annotated with their damage severity levels.
