"Flagstaff is majestically located on a plateau in the center of the largest stand of Ponderosa Pine in the United States, at the base of the San Francisco Peaks (Arizona's highest mountains - 12,633 feet). The plateau, with an average elevation of around. 7000 feet, is the southern edge of the Colorado plateau and curves from the Grand Canyon southeastward across mid-Arizona and then eastward into New Mexico. Flagstaff is the hub for north-south and east-west travel across northern Arizona, and is the 'gateway' to numerous recreational areas in Arizona, including the Grand Canyon"--Page 1.
