Marine red beds from the Marrat Formation, Saudi Arabia: A possible consequence of the Toarcian oceanic anoxic event of the Arabian Plate

This dataset supports the research article titled:“Marine red beds from the Marrat Formation, Saudi Arabia: A possible consequence of the Toarcian oceanic anoxic event of the Arabian Plate.” The data were collected through integrated fieldwork and laboratory analyses aimed at characterizing the Mineralogical and geochemical features of marine red beds from the Lower Jurassic Marrat Formation in central Saudi Arabia. The dataset includes: Field sample records and Mineralogical analysis of the bulk red and green samples as well as the clay fractions (<2 mm) has been conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD) The geochemical analyses, including major oxides as well as trace and rare-earth elements (REEs). To evaluate the source rock compositions, paleoclimate conditions, depositional environment, and tectonic setting of the red beds, several geochemical proxies were calculated from the geochemical data. These data are used to investigate the origin and and depositional conditions of red bed and its potential linkage to the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event (T-OAE) on the Arabian Plate. All files are provided in open formats (e.g., .csv, .xlsx) and are accompanied by a Tabele file that defines variables, units, methods, and file structure to facilitate reuse and reproducibility.
