Venture Capital and Post-IPO Performance of South Korean IPOs, 2015-2019

This dataset provides a four-year panel of financial information and venture capital (VC) backing for 382 firms listed on South Korea's KOSPI, KOSDAQ, and KONEX markets through an Initial Public Offering (IPO) between 2015 and 2019. The panel covers the IPO year (t) and the subsequent three years (t+1 to t+3). The data were meticulously compiled and harmonized by the author from publicly accessible sources, including Bloomberg Terminal, the South Korea Financial Supervisory Service's DART system, and the Korea Exchange's KIND database. Key variables include firm financials, Tobin's Q, and detailed VC characteristics. VC investment status and equity shareholding are captured as of the pre-IPO stage and are treated as time-invariant characteristics for the observation period. This dataset was constructed to enable the analysis of post-IPO performance trajectories and the impact of VC involvement in an emerging market context.

PANEL STRUCTURE & TIME DEFINITIONS
The dataset is structured as a panel observing each firm for four years relative to its IPO date.
- t_minus1: The year prior to the IPO year (used for pre-IPO VC data).
- t: The year of the IPO.
- t_plus1: The first year after the IPO year.
- t_plus2: The second year after the IPO year.
- t_plus3: The third year after the IPO year.

- GVC: Dummy variable for Government VC backing (1 if backed by GVC-only, 0 otherwise).
- PVC: Dummy variable for Private VC backing (1 if backed by PVC-only, 0 otherwise).
- MixVC: Dummy variable for Mixed (Public-Private) VC backing (1 if backed by co-investment, 0 otherwise).
