57310.22.01 Kaprun, Salzburg, befestigte Höhensiedlung Bürgkogel

On November 15, 2022, a two-person archaeological team (Manuel Scherer-Windisch & Roman Lamprecht) conducted geomagnetic surveys at the well-known Bürgkogel hilltop settlement near Kaprun. The goal was to identify potential immovable archaeological features by surveying the two main peaks of Bürgkogel and the eastern summit.

The survey revealed disturbances, particularly in the southern area and at the highest elevations, along with numerous positive and negative anomalies without clear patterns. Some anomalies are likely due to underlying rock, which is present just a few centimeters below the surface on the peaks. Dipoles were observed throughout the survey area, with a notable concentration east of Bürgkogel (Fig. 2), though modern debris from a mast installation is expected in that area.
