Attitudes to topics of domestic policy. Attitude to Europe. Questions
on reunification. Judgement on the media and personal media behavior.
Topics: 1. Questions of domestic policy: satisfaction with democracy;
party preference (Sunday question); behavior at the polls in the last
Federal Parliament election; trust in public institutions (scale);
importance of federal institutions (scale); preferred development of
society (scale); most important goals of domestic policy; attitude to
the right to vote for foreigners and to the right to asylum; attitude
to a limit to the admission of politically persecuted and consistent
deportation of those whose application for asylum was denied; contacts
with foreigners; national pride; attitude to the Federal Flag;
satisfaction with social conditions in the Federal Republic; acceptance
of citizens of the GDR as Germans; perceived threat to public safety as
well as assumed increase or decrease in this threat; perceived threat
as well as unease from selected forms of crime.
2. Attitude to Europe: preference for national or European solutions
for selected political problems; assessment of the advantageousness of
EC membership for the Federal Republic; expectations of the common
domestic market in Europe at the end of 1992; self-assessment on a
left-right continuum.
3. Questions on reunification: preference for rapid reunification;
advantages or disadvantages from reunification; preferred Federal
Capital; estimated time required to achieve economic equality for
residents of the GDR; visits to the GDR after border opening; intended
trips to the GDR and desire for a vacation in the GDR; attitude to city
partnerships with GDR cities; perceived danger to democracy from former
SED functionaries in the GDR as well as in a united Germany; assessment
of the credibility of the PDS and attitude to their candidacy in a
Federal Parliament election; judgement on a possible election success
of the PDS; recognition of the Oder-Neisse Line; family ties in the
territory east of the Oder-Neisse Line; attitude to a democracy
prepared for defense; jeopardy to democracy in the Federal Republic
from left-wing and right-wing extremist groups (scale).
4. Judgement on the media and personal media behavior: use of private
radio and television; attitude to private radio and to commercial
television; reception of broadcasts of the ´Deutschen Welle´ and
´Deutschlandfunk´ during a stay abroad.
Year of birth and month of birth; government examination or
{university} diploma; religiousness; party inclination.
