Gene database of Vibrio cholerae

Comma-shaped under a microscope, <i>Vibrio cholerae</i> is the aetiological agent for cholera that continues to plague the population in areas with poor sanitation. The bacterium is Gram-negative and facultative anaerobic, which provided it with a range of metabolic options that could be supported by either aerobic respiration or fermentation. Armed with a polar flagellum as well as pili, <i>V. cholerae</i> is a motile bacterium. This work sought to provide fundamental information on the genetic repertoire of <i>V. cholerae</i> by parsing its annotated genome sequence downloaded from Genbank. Comprising gene name, gene function and gene sequence of all genes in the genome of <i>V. cholerae</i>, the resource should be useful in identifying potential genes involved in pathogenesis as well as guiding genome editing effort to construct loss of function mutants for understanding new facets of its pathogenesis mechanisms.
