Although most MnOB are heterotrophic bacteria frequently associated with oligotrophic environments, the quantitative relationship between organic substrate concentration and Mn oxidation activity remains poorly defined. In this study, we evaluated the effects of organic substrate concentration on MnOB activity using a down-flow hanging sponge reactor, batch experiments with enriched biomass, and the pure MnOB strain Pseudomonas resinovorans MO-1. Microbial community analysis of the enriched MnOB consortium and transcriptomic analysis of Pseudomonas resinovorans MO-1 were performed.
