Dataset on Social Norms, Religiosity, Stigma, and HIV/STI Burden (1981–2022)

This dataset compiles harmonised country–year aggregates from the World Values Survey (WVS, waves 1–7) covering 108 countries between 1981 and 2022, merged with HIV prevalence and sexually transmitted infection (STI) burden indicators from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 (IHME), and economic controls (GDP per capita and GINI index) from the World Bank World Development Indicators (WDI).The dataset includes variables on sexual norms (attitudes toward homosexuality, sex work, casual sex, and premarital sex), religious salience (importance of religion, belief in God, sharing religion with a partner, importance of religion in marriage), stigma (unwillingness to have a neighbour with AIDS), and wellbeing indicators (happiness, self-rated health).Preprocessing steps included the removal of invalid codes, imputation of nearest-year values for the GINI index, and LOCB sensitivity analyses as described in the Supplementary Material.The final dataset covers 88 countries (1996–2022) with 1,046,141 individual survey responses aggregated to country–year level.
