资源简介:
The attached dataset was used in the study currently in press with Landscape and Urban Planning (Collard et al., 2026), which investigates potential synergies and conflicts between two major objectives in domestic gardens: wild biodiversity conservation and vegetable production. Our hypothesis is that the practice of vegetable gardening engages gardeners in a relationship with living organisms, which could influence, positively or negatively, their perceptions about wild species and their garden, their decision to adopt more conservative or agroecological practices to manage vegetated areas, and consequently, the wild biodiversity found in their garden. Full details of the methodology are provided in the Materials and Methods section of that article. This dataset originates from a nationwide online questionnaire conducted on a large sample of French gardeners and provides detailed information on gardeners attitude towards biodiversity conservation and vegetable garden production, gardeners’ commitment to their garden and nature and gardeners’ practices. The survey was carried out by Dynata, a professional organisation specialising in survey research. Respondents were recruited from Dynata’s existing national panel of French citizens aged 18 years and older. To ensure representativeness, the sample was stratified by sex, age, socio-economic category, and geographical location, reflecting the proportions of the French adult population. A total of 1,000 individuals were recruited, of whom 795 met the inclusion criteria: having a private garden adjacent to their home and tending it at least partially themselves. This selection ensured that respondents were directly involved in garden management, a prerequisite for meaningful data on gardening practices and biodiversity attitudes.
