Spanish Civil War Mountain Position (Detail)

..I will brig you an anecdote about the french combatants of the XIVth International Brigade who fought close to this position in Santa María de la Alameda. Apparently, the frech were located here for a brief rest in the summer of 1937. The front was quiet in this sector of the mountains; except for sporadic riffle shooting and shelling from a francoist cannon, whose proyectiles, as well as the response of the republic cannons, were breaking the peaceful rest of the brigadists. One day, tired of the damned cannon, the brigadists told the republican officer in charge of the battery that if they didn't shoot the francoist, surely wouldn't be any more shelling and all could enjoy some peace. The french were right and, as soon as the republicans stoped, the rebels did the same.
