Atlantic puffin genome sequencing and assembly. Fratercula arctica

There exists no reference genome for the Atlantic puffin (Fratercula arctica), which is required for detailed population genomic analyses. We created a first de-novo draft genome assembly of a female Atlantic puffin using the Chromium 10x Genomics technology. We also applied various subsequent improvement and cleanup steps during scaffolding. This assembly provides a genomic basis for further whole genome resequencing analyses of Atlantic puffins and allows to clarify the taxonomy of this endangered species, which is of substantial importance for conservation management.
