CLARIS framework: An expert-supervised Reference Image Database (RID) for cloud and aerosol researchThe Cloud–clear Adaptive Retrieval using Image based Statistics (CLARIS) is a framework that consist off a pixel-wise physically anchored algorithm and a Reference Image Database (RID).This dataset corresponds to 1248 images captured by a SONA all-sky camera located at the Burjassot Atmospheric Station (BASS; 39.5ºN, 0.42º W, 40 a.s.l.), which is maintained by the Solar Radiation Group (GRSV) of the University of Valencia. BASS is located northwest of Valencia (Spain), within its metropolitan area and at around 10 km away from the Mediterranean Sea. BASS is dedicated to research and monitoring of solar radiation, aerosols, clouds, and their interactions using both remote sensing and in situ instrumentation .For this database, the images have been selected to be representative of the full range of sky conditions at BASS in terms of cloud cover, aerosol load, and aerosol type. In addition, a metadata file (RID_metadata.csv) is included with auxiliary information about the images and measurements provided by various collocated instruments installed at BASS. All the information included in this database can be used for testing and validating algorithms for the determination of cloud and aerosol properties.A detailed description of all the information related to the database is provided in the file Readme_v3.1.pdf.
