Hydroponic lettuce root dataset (diseased or healthy)

This dataset contains images of lettuce roots (Lactuca sativa var. crispa L., BS AC0155) grown hydroponically. It is one of the results of Pedro Lucas Trentin Agostini's master's thesis, advised by Prof. Dr. Rafael Rieder. This study was also supported by Dr. Letícia Eduarda Bender, Prof. Dr. José Luís Trevisan Chiomento, and Prof. Dr. Luciane Maria Colla. The images were manually acquired using a Xiaomi Note 8 smartphone equipped with a 48-megapixel main rear camera, positioned 10cm away from the target, with a black background. All images were captured in JPEG format at a resolution of 6000 × 8000 pixels. We collected 651 images of lettuce roots in the UPF Agronomy controlled experiment greenhouses (28°13'47.2"S 52°23'4.3"W), during January, April, and June 2025. From this dataset, we labeled 331 root samples as diseased and 441 as healthy.
