nifH gene diversity in shrubland and shrub-biocrust soils from the Loess Plateau, China

This study aims to uncover the diversity and vertical distribution patterns of nitrogen-fixing functional genes (nifH) in soils from shrub and shrub-biocrust patches in the Loess Plateau. By comparing gene abundance and composition across patch types and soil depths, we seek to understand how biological soil crusts and shrubs interact to influence microbial nitrogen fixation potential. The findings will provide microbial ecological insights into vegetation restoration and soil fertility improvement in arid and semi-arid regions.
