In this study we have developed an animal model of infective endocarditis in pigs. Using this animal model of endocarditis, we have identified by RNA-dual seq the transcriptional pattern of S. aureus during endocarditis in vivo and the transcriptional response of heart valve cells to infection in vivo. Likewise, we have also analyzed by RNA-dual seq the transcriptional patterns of S. aureus and heart valve cells in human endocarditis samples in which we have corroborated the results of the transcriptional patterns observed in the animal model.
