SN 1006 and cosmic-ray acceleration
收藏资源简介:
SN 1006 was shown by ASCA to be of a dual nature, with nonthermal emissioncoming from the bright limbs and fainter thermal emission coming from the centerand the other sides. This is the best example we have of shock accelerationof cosmicray electrons to energies approaching the knee in the cosmicrayspectrum (supernova remnants are thought to be the main sites of cosmicrayacceleration). We have analysed our first 7 ks XMMNewton pointing on SN 1006North East, and have measured for the first time the radial and azimuthalvariations of the synchrotron emission. We propose to map the whole remnant withdeeper exposures, allowing spectral analysis at a scale of 15 arcsec (about theXMM HEW) in the bright limbs and at a scale of 1 arcmin in the interior. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
