FIELD: treatment of water， industrial and household waste water or sewage sludge. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for purification of waste water of pulp-and-paper industry. Removal of humic substances containing lignin and other lignin-type compounds and their decomposition products from aqueous alkaline waste water from chemical pulp bleaching is carried out by deposition using high-cationic starch. High-cationic starch has charge density of at least 1.8 mEq/g of dry substance of starch derivatives， determined at pH 7–7.5， and viscosity of 20 mPa·s， measured in 3??% starch solution in water with addition of NaCl in five-fold amount relative to starch.
