Although the control of seed germination is important subject in cereal crop breeding, little is known about the molecular mechanism and genetic basis of the traits. A major quantitative trait locus, qLTG3-1, has a large genetic effect on the increase in low temperature germinability in rice, and represents a gene with unknown function. The objective of this study was to elucidate the molecular mechanism of seed germination controlling qLTG3-1. By performing oligo microarray using the NIL, the genes specifically induced or suppressed by qLTG3-1 during seed germination were identified. These data provide new insight into the molecular mechanism of seed germination.
