Manual For Hatchery Culture Of The Bay Scallop, Argopecten Irradians Irradians

Efforts to collect bay scallop spat in southern New England estuaries have met with limited success. As an alternative, the Milford Laboratory devised a strategy for bay scallop aquaculture development based on hatchery production of seed scallops. Their methods, from facilities and broodstock selection to spawning and rearing, are described in this manual. Photos and further information on subjects such as algal foods and disease controls supplement the manual.
