Universities for Sustainability – Survey Dataset (SHiFT) CA21166 MoU 080/22

This dataset contains responses collected through the Universities for Sustainability Survey, developed within the framework of the SHiFT COST Action. SHiFT seeks to identify and promote opportunities for the engagement of social sciences, arts, and humanities in climate transformation and resilience processes across diverse social, political, economic, environmental, and technological contexts. The survey is part of the broader Universities for Sustainability initiative, which aims to strengthen the commitment of higher education institutions to sustainability by assessing how universities integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their institutional strategies, teaching practices, research activities, and societal engagement. The initiative combines an international seminar, a survey, and related publications to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange among academia, policymakers, and society. The dataset focuses on academics’ perceptions, experiences, and practices concerning sustainability and SDG integration in higher education. It provides insights into: the incorporation of SDGs in curricula and research, institutional approaches to sustainability, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration, the role of social sciences, arts, and humanities in climate transformation, barriers and opportunities for sustainability-oriented education and research, perceptions of the effectiveness and impact of SDG implementation within universities. The data can support comparative analyses of sustainability practices in higher education institutions and contribute to the development of guidelines and best practices for embedding sustainability and climate resilience into academic environments.
