A high resolution urban and rural settlement map of Africa

This study introduces a high-resolution rural-urban maps for Africa by integrating land cover and human settlement data using deep learning. The model, based on the DeepLabV3 architecture, classifies land into urban, rural, and non-settlement areas at a 10-meter resolution, improving accuracy in distinguishing these regions. This enhanced rural-urban map provides valuable insights to support more informed decisions for urban planning, sustainable development, and environmental management in Africa.To identify the relevant patch ID, refer to the file AfricaGeometry.PNG.Each image contains 7 bands (b1 to b7), corresponding to the years 2016 through 2022.
