Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) resource provides moderate resolution imaging data of the earth's total surface every two days. Data are collected by spectroradiometers onboard two NASA satellites that detect electromagnetic energy across 36 spectral bands ranging from 0.4 to 14.4 micrometers which allows many of the earth’s rapid biological and meteorological changes to be captured. The processed data are made available through numerous data products for studies of earth’s evolving air and land features. They are also distributed and used by multiple partners that specialize in different data products (see the MODIS web site for a list of partner distribution sites, plus the NASA EarthData portal and NASA Data Pathfinder web sites). MODIS plays a vital role in the development of validated, global, interactive earth system models able to predict global change accurately enough to assist policy makers with decisions concerning environmental protection.
