Are we ready to eliminate malaria in Nigeria? Assessing the Knowledge of National Malaria Treatment Guidelines among Patent Medicine Vendors in Nigeria

This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge of Proprietary Patent Medicine Vendors of Nigeria’s National Malaria Treatment Guidelines, and to identify gaps that undermine national efforts to control malaria. We conducted a cross-sectional census of registered PPMVs operating in one rural and one urban LGA of Enugu State, Nigeria. Data were collected using a structured, interviewer-administered questionnaire developed from the 2020 NMTG. Knowledge of malaria diagnosis and treatment was assessed using an 18-item standardized score. Referral practices were also examined, and multivariable linear regression was used to identify factors independently associated with guideline knowledge.
