The Reception of Ancient Greek Literature and Philosophy in the "Molla Nasreddin" Journal

This article examines the reception and reinterpretation of Ancient Greek literature and philosophy in the Azerbaijani satirical journal Molla Nasreddin, published between 1906 and 1931 under the editorship of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh. Focusing on references, allusions, and satirical representations of classical Greek thinkers and literary traditions, the study reveals how elements of antiquity were employed to criticize social injustice, ignorance, and dogmatism in early twentieth-century Azerbaijani society. The analysis demonstrates that Molla Nasreddin functioned not only as a satirical periodical but also as a medium for transmitting and recontextualizing world literary and philosophical heritage.
