Overview This map displays land identified as vacant at the parcel level across Connecticut, as described by the CAMA data. It is intended to provide a high-level overview of where these lands are located statewide, serving as a useful general reference. For those developing a Housing Growth Plan under C.G.S. §§ 8-13bb and 8-13cc, this map can help inform the Developable Land Inventory and suitability analysis process. Note that a detailed GIS analysis should still be completed for that purpose, as this map is intended as an overview only. Definitions Vacant Land: This category includes publicly or privately owned land dedicated to governmental, institutional, infrastructure, utility, transportation, educational, recreational, or other public-serving functions that limit or preclude development Datasets Connecticut Vacant Land Parcels: This dataset is derived from the statewide parcel layer maintained by the GIS Office. Parcels were identified as vacant by searching for the parcel attributes for text associated with vacancy. The list of search terms is not exhaustive. While the GIS Office has determined that this method produces minimal false positives and misclassifications, some parcels may still be classified incorrectly. [See: Connecticut Vacant Parcels] Instructions To review whether a parcel is designated as a vacant, zoom to your target area. The Vacant Land Parcels and Parcel layers will appear when the map is zoomed in past a zoom scale of less than 1:289,000 and 1:36,000, respectively. Click on a parcel to view the vacant land designation. Use the filters in the top right header bar to query the map by Municipality or Council of Government (COG). Use the filter in the top right of the map to query for specific vacant land parcel types.
