VPRS 15021 Progress Payments, Drought Relief Act 1944

This series consists of summary sheets (or schedules) prepared by the Department of Crown Lands and Survey (VA 538) and presented for approval to the Board of Land and Works (VA 714). These were for progress payments being made to cereal farmers under the Drought Relief Act 1944. Details given are the total amount granted to the farmer, the number allocated to his file (possibly the application number), the name of the farmer and the amount of the payment in words and figures.The Drought Relief Act 1944 provided for payments to be made to cereal farmers to alleviate hardship caused by the drought in Victoria in 1944. The grant was to assist the farmer to carry on normal farming operations in the subsequent year. Payment could only be made to bona fide farmers or to the Australian Wheat Board for seed wheat for cropping operations.This series was previously registered as Unit 8 of VPRS 10190 / P Schedule of Cases.
