SIHTD - Small Island Historical Trade Dataset

This original dataset gathers imports, exports, population and exchange rate data. Following the file considered, the time period that is covered in either 1900-2021, 1960-2021 or various years to 2021. The dataset covers respectively 47, 86 and 81 island and coastal territories around the world. For trade data, the most complete dataset is named 'NLucic_SIHTD_Details_of_Foreign_Trade_per_Island_with_sources-14032024' and covers 81 territories. Every sheet displays all the sources (comments in column titles) that were found for every island in order to present data from the rawest to the most transformed form. Indeed, data in current local currency are found, then transformed in their current and then constant 2005 USD per capita equivalent. The originality of this dataset is the integration of both affiliated (which generally have less historical data and studies) and independent islands. The second file is named 'NLucic_SIHTD_Continuous_Foreign_Trade_series_1900-2021-14032024' and is only a snapshot of the larger aforementioned dataset. This file gathers only transformed and ready to use data in a continuous manner from 1900 to 2021. The third file is named 'NLucic_SIHTD_GDP_1960-2021_with_sources-14032024' and gathers GDP data for 1960-2021 for 86 territories All data sources are available in column titles, in the form of comments. This is the latest up to date version and fill be used for future research works by myself and the research community.
