Allopatry is generally considered to be one of the main contributors to remarkable Neotropical biodiversity. However, the role of chromosomal rearrangements including neo-sex chromosomes for genetic diversity is still poorly investigated and understood. Here, we aimed to infer the contribution of chromosomal rearrangements, especially those related to the origin of sex chromosomes, to the genetic divergence in five Pyrrhulina species by combining population genomic along with cytogenetic data.
