This project will investigate interfacial reactions and element-specific redox processes in solid-state batter-ies (SSBs) using X-ray Raman Scattering (XRS). We will study Li2B12H12/ZrO2 nanocomposite electrolytes and reference compounds (Li, ZrO2, Li2B12H12) via ex-situ XRS at the Li (55 eV), B (188 eV), and O (532 eV) K-edges, measuring Li in backward scattering to suppress low-energy background. Operando XRS at the B K-edge will be performed on Li|Li2B12H12/ZrO2|TiS2 batteries under ambient and 60 °C conditions to monitor chemical evolution during cycling. MgO₂-based nanocomposites will also be examined to probe ox-ide effects. High-resolution measurements will track interfacial changes and layer thicknesses. Experiments will be conducted at ESRF ID20, whose 72-crystal spectrometer enables efficient low- and high-q measure-ments. We request 21 shifts (168 h) to complete reference, ex-situ, and operando measurements.
