CDPHE Colorado Reportable Disease Dataset

The Colorado reportable disease dataset contains yearly case count and rate data for reportable diseases and conditions monitored by the Communicable Disease Branch at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), as displayed in the Colorado Reportable Disease Data dashboard for years 2016-2024. Reportable conditions not displayed in the visualization are monitored by other CDPHE programs, including hepatitis B, hepatitis C, sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis, and lead. The data in this file will be updated yearly. Candidemia and Group A and B Invasive Strep are only reportable in Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson Counties. RSV-associated hospitalizations were reportable in Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson Counties during June 2019 - June 2023. Beginning in July 2023, RSV-associated hospitalizations became reportable statewide. Yersiniosis (Non-Pestis) is only reportable in Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson Counties. Congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV) became reportable statewide in 2025 for infants less than one year of age. For these conditions, rates per 100,000 population are calculated from the populations where each condition was or is reportable. Before 2021, data collection for West Nile Virus infection did not distinguish between neuroinvasive or non-neuroinvasive infection, so data before 2021 is not displayed here. Brief description of data fields (columns) included in this dataset: diagnosis: The name of the reportable disease or condition. onset_year: Based on the onset date of the illness. If the onset date is unavailable, then the earliest date among the following: the date the lab specimen was collected, the date the lab test was conducted, the date the lab was entered into the state’s database, or the date the disease or condition was first reported to public health. metric: Available sections include age group (based on age at onset of illness), county (based on county of residence at diagnosis), onset month (based on the same criteria as onset_year), and state (Colorado). category: Available sections corresponding to the appropriate metric include individual age groups, all Colorado counties, Colorado when metric = state, and months of the year (January - December). total: Case count for selected onset_year, metric, and group; age group information is not displayed when the annual case count is equal to one and is designated by “**” in the dataset. population: population for selected onset_year, metric, and group. rate_per_100k: Case rate per 100,000 population for selected onset_year, metric, and group; age group information is not displayed when the annual case count is equal to one and is designated by “**” in the dataset.
