Genomic characterization of generic Escherichia coli from food-producing animals and products of animal origin, in South Africa

The objectives of this study were to: (1) investigate the antimicrobial resistome composition of E. coli found in South African food and animal products, (2) assess the E.coli serotypes, sequence types and phylogroups of E. coli using in silico techniques, (3) identify E. coli virulence factors, pathogenicity as well the mobile genetic elements associated with E. coli isolated from food and animal products within South Africa.
