The persistence of Plasmodium vivax dormant hypnozoites in the liver causes disease relapse and is a major challenge to malaria eradication. Using a GFP-expressing line of P. cynomolgi, we investigated for the first time the transcriptome of the relapsing malaria liver stages (schizonts and hypnozoites) providing a valuable resource for a wide range of studies that tackle the hypnozoite problem.
