This study compared the effects of alkaline, thermal, thermal-peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and alkyl polyglucose (APG) pretreatments on volatile fat acids (VFAs) production from refinery waste activated sludge (RWAS), including VFAs yield and composition, organics components, microbial communities and the potential improvement of mechanisms.
