The principle of constitutional supremacy is one of the basic pillars of any state governed by the rule of law. This principle holds that the constitution is the supreme norm within the legal order of a country and that all other laws and regulations must conform to it. However, the interaction between national constitutions and the Inter‑American Human Rights System (IHRS) has posed challenges in Latin America, especially in Guatemala and other Central American countries.
