<b>Protected areas may fail to protect fishes in the future: A case study of </b><i><b>Nemachilichthys ruppelli</b></i><b> from the Western Ghats, India</b>

This dataset encompasses a comprehensive analysis of variables utilized in the species distribution modeling of N. ruppelli fish, with a particular focus on the presence of multicollinearity among them. It offers a detailed insight into various bioclimatic factors and geophysical variables, including DEM, flow accumulation, hillslope valley bottom, slope, stream order, upland valley bottom, and low-land sedimentation. The dataset is enriched with informative figures that portray the projected habitat suitability of N. ruppelli under different climatic scenarios. These figures showcase the anticipated habitat suitability for the species in the year 2050 under the most adverse climatic conditions, as well as in the year 2070 under both the best and worst climatic scenarios in the KRS area. Additionally, the dataset provides a comprehensive overview of protected areas alongside mean habitat suitability scenarios for Nemachilichthys ruppelli. To further augment its usability, the dataset furnishes district-wise mean habitat suitability data for N. ruppelli in easily accessible tabular formats.
