Comparative genomics of Lactobacillus mudanjiangensis. Comparative genomics of Lactobacillus mudanjiangensis

In this study the first genome sequences of strains of Lactobacillus mudanjiangensis are reported and analyzed. Since its first description in 2013, no other strains from this Lactobacillus species have been described in the literature. Here, whole-genome sequencing was performed on the type strain of L. mudanjiangensis to confirm whether some carrot juice isolates were indeed members of this species. Since L. mudanjiangensis was found to be a member of the L. plantarum group, their genome sequences were analyzed together with 300 publicly available assemblies of closely related L. plantarum group species using a pangenomics pipeline. This allowed to get more insights into the genomic features of this understudied Lactobacillus species.
