BIOL 2050 LAB 3 DATASET 2: Deducing attraction of insect species to certain flower colours based on pantraps set in grassland and woodlot

Data was collected on: September 30, 2014 Data was collected by: David, Jessie, Mark, Martina, Patrick Data was collected from the grasslands and woodlot in Danby Woods located to the west of the Chimney Stack Parking Lot in the north-west corner of York University Keele Campus. Ten solo bowls of three colours were placed alternatively one foot apart from each other in a straight line in a grassland around 2:50pm. Similarly ten traps were placed in a woodlot around 3:00pm. The order of colour in which the traps were placed were as follows: White, Blue, Yellow, White, Blue, Yellow, White, Blue, Yellow, White. Each bowl was filled with diluted soapy water to an inch height and the pantrap bowls were left alone for two hours. The number of insects, number of recognizable taxonomic units (rtus) and the name of the insects identified in each bowl were recorded after two hours. Pantrap: number of pantrap bowls sampled. Colour: colour of pantrap bowls used. Total insects: the total number of insects found in each bowl was counted. Rtus: the total number of recognizable taxonomic (species) units (insects) were recorded. Species: name of the insects identified or description of insect if unidentified.
