POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITE 48FR5006 AND THE MDU #5-11 PIPELINE, FREMONT COUNTY, WYOMING

Single samples from site 48FR5006 and the MDU #5-11 pipeline were examined for pollen
and macrofloral remains to provide information concerning plant resources that might have been
processed at these sites. 48FR5006 is located roughly 25 miles south of the town of Shoshoni,
Wyoming and approximately one mile east of Muskrat Creek. The site is situated at an elevation
of 5140 feet amsl in a vegetative community containing sagebrush, grasses and prickly pear
cactus. The feature sampled, which is described as a large rock-filled basin, was exposed in the
first scraper pass over the area. Pollen and macrofloral samples were recovered from a depth of
10-20 cm below ground surface. The MDU #5-11 pipeline is located approximately 30 miles east
of Shoshoni, Wyoming, about 150 meters north of Sand Creek. The site is situated at an elevation
of 5500 feet amsl in a community of grasses, sagebrush and prickly pear cactus. This feature was
not described, other than being discovered in a pipeline trench wall at a depth of 110-120 cm below
surface.
