A geospatial inventory dataset of study sites in a Korean Quaternary paleoecology database

We developed three datasets: <b>1. Publication Metadata</b>, <b>2. Site Inventory, and 3. Chron-Depth Collection</b>. The first two datasets are linked through Publication ID, and the last two datasets through Site ID (Figure 2). The Site Inventory dataset serves as the core of the other two datasets, including key information on study site and sample metadata (Table 1). The Publication Metadata contains citation details of the 66 articles covering study sites in the inventory dataset. The Chron-Depth Collection comprises chronological information used for sediment records of the sites.Details of each dataset follow as:<b>Publication Metadata</b> is organized to develop an inventory of study sites for Korean Quaternary paleoecology research. This dataset includes bibliographic data of articles (<i>n</i> = 66) regarding Korean Quaternary Paleoecology published in peer-reviewed Korean and international journals between 2003 and 2023. The dataset is formatted with nine categories: PublicationID, Authors, Publication Year, Title, Journal, Vol.Issue.Num.Pages, DOI, Written language, and type of study site. Regarding type of study sites, the publications are broadly categorized into two groups based on the primary goals of the sampling: paleo-site for sediment record and surface site for modern surface sample.<b>Site Inventory</b> has three worksheets: a) Inventory dataset has metadata from Korean Quaternary paleoenviromental research papers (n = 66) published in peer-reviewed journals between 2003 and 2023 (the publication list is found in the first data file, "Publication Metadata.xlsx"); b) Column description provides definitions for each column in the Inventory dataset worksheet; and c) Other Proxy Abbreviations<b> </b>explains the abbreviations used for proxies in the "Other Proxies" column of the Inventory Dataset worksheet.<b>Chron-Depth Collection</b> represents a total of 784 geochronological data from 72 Quaternary sediment records in South Korea. It comprises two worksheets:<b> </b>a) Chron-Depth dataset contains 9 columns, SiteID (corresponding to SiteID of the second data file, "Site Inventory.xlsx"), Dating method, SampleID, Material, Age_yrBP, Age.Err_yrBP, Depth_cm, d13C_per_mil, and d13C_error_per_mill, and b) Column description explains the definition of each column the 9 columns in the Chron-Depth dataset worksheet.<br>
