The complete sequence of the Heterodoxus macropus mitochondrial genome was determined at the University of Queensland, Brisbane. The mitochondrial genome encodes the 37 genes typical of animals, but has extensive gene rearrangements in comparison to other insects. Comparisons to the mitochondrial genomes of other species of lice and hemipteroid insects will be useful in understanding their phylogenetic relationships.
