The USDA-ARS is determining the genome sequence of <i>Varroa destructor</i> using a whole genome shotgun approach. The DNA source is 2000 mites collected from colony 45 in the ''Mushroom'' apiary of the USDA-ARS Bee Research Laboratory, Beltsville, MD, USA (N39°2.49096, W076°51.83742) in September, 2008.
