资源简介:
In January 1998, St. Louis District personnel visited the State Historical Society of West Virginia in Charleston to research archaeological and historic buildings survey work conducted on federally owned and funded National Guard facilities in the state. This document reports the history of cultural investigations on federally owned or federally supported West Virginia Army National Guard (WVARNG) facilities, lists archaeological sites recorded within facility boundaries, discusses historic contexts and predictive models, and provides a list of Native American tribes that may be culturally affiliated with archaeological collections recovered from the investigated WVARNG facilities. To date, two archaeological sites have been recorded as possibly being located on Camp Dawson. No cultural resources investigations have been undertaken for Hinton Training Site and Keyser-Fort Hill; therefore, neither facility has recorded cultural properties. No cultural properties located on WVARNG facilities have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) or have been considered NRHP eligible. The extent, nature and location of archaeological collections recovered from work conducted on WVARNG facilities will be determined in the second phase of this project, to be completed during Fiscal Year 1999.
