VPRS 10645 Memos, Circulars and Correspondence

This series consists of bound volumes of circulars and memoranda sent to the clerks of the Closer Settlement Branch of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey (VA 538) as guidance and direction in the carrying out of their duties. It was necessary to supplement any standardised instructions with circulars and memoranda as legislation was changed or a decision was made to change procedures. Other circulars and memoranda assisted in the administration of the department itself.The memoranda and circulars collated within this series reflect the divided administration governing officers (see VA 2266). Some circulars were from the Lands Purchase and Management Board or the Closer Settlement Board, some from the Department of Crown Lands and Survey, some from the Office of the Premier, and some from the Treasury Department. The three units within consignment P1 overlap in content as well as chronologically, and appear to be created by three different work groups. Consignment P2 was formerly listed as VPRS 10645. Handwritten notes relating to file tracking, correspondence or file numbers, and circulation lists may be written on the circulars.Subjects covered by the series include Mallee lands, seed and wheat, wire netting, control of vermin and noxious weeds, discharged soldiers, sewerage and manure, War gratuities, reserves, transfers of land, stock, staff, rents and rates, railways and roads, and various Lands Acts.The P1 consignment was previously registered as VPRS 14296?P1 Circulars.
