The study conducted examined the total number of individuals and number of species of insects collected in relation to the color of the pan trap laid out in the Grassland at York University.<br>Methods:A total of 18 pan traps were laid out, 6 pans for each of the colors(yellow, blue and white). The traps were placed in groups of three, having one of each color. An estimated 40 ml of soap water was added to each pan. The groups were randomly laid out along the transect on an evenly elevated plot of land and the distance from the initial pan trap to each of the other pan trap was recorded in meters .The traps were left out for an hour, after which they were collected and examined. The number of individuals and number of species collected in each pan trap and recorded. <br>Hypothesis:There will be more insects collected in the brightly colored pan traps compared to those that are not brightly colored.<br>Prediction:1-There will be more insects collected in the yellow pan trap as compared to the blue or white. Like brightly colored flowers, insects are generally attracted towards to those pan traps which draws their attention. 2-There will be an increase in individual number of insects and species from the white to the yellow pan trap , with yellow having the most and white having the least. Meta-data:<br>Plot: An area of grassland outside of the engineering building at York university. A total of 18 individual pans were laid out containing 6 groups of three at random locations along the chosen transect.<br>Number of individual insects: The total number of individual insects regardless of species, that were collected in each pan trap.<br>Number of insect species: The total number of species type for the insects found in each pan trap.<br>The location of the pan traps were not a factor that was considered, since they were laid out randomly. The distance of each pan trap from the initial was recorded in meters along the transect.<br><br><br><br>
