In the study, we aimed to sequence whole chloroplast genomes (plastomes) of Arctium lappa from Arctium. Our goals were to characterize the cp genome structure and see if there were features variation that compara with the species Asteraceae. We then aimed to find the evolutionary relationship analysised by the plastomes, and place them phylogenetically in the genus in the Arctium, the tribe Cichorieae and the family Asteraceae. We also aimed to identify appropriate regions or genes for use as markers in future studies identification and phylogenetic relationships analysis.
