Wolbachia is an obligate, intracellular alpha-proteobacterium that commonly infects arthropods and filarial nematodes. Different strains of Wolbachia are capable of a wide range of regulatory manipulations in many hosts and modulate host cellular differentiation to influence host reproduction. Wolbachia infections can produce effects on host phenotype including male killing, cytoplasmic incompatibility, viral suppression in many species of insects, and obligate mutualism in filarial nematodes. Here, we present raw sequence reads from our project to produce a high-quality de novo asssembly of Drosophila willistoni's endosymbiont Wolbachia (wWil) assembled from both Nanopore and Illumina sequencing of wWil infected in vitro Drosophila melanogaster cultures.
