Here we characterize the complete genomic sequence of Myxococcus phage Mx9, a lysogenic, short-tailed bacteriophage infecting its bacterial host Myxococcus xanthus, a model in microbial developmental biology and social evolution. The 53.5-kb genome has a GC-content of 67.5% and contains 98 predicted protein-coding genes, including the previously described integrase. Mx9 is classified as P22-like virus (Lederbergvirus).
