Refugees are individuals recognized under the 1951 Refugee Convention, its 1967 Protocol, the 1969 OAU Convention, or the UNHCR statute, as well as those granted refugee-like or temporary protection. Asylum seekers, who are awaiting decisions on their applications, are excluded. The country of origin refers to a person’s nationality or citizenship.
